Culmination of Go Green- ‘Prakruthi’ Project

The month-long Go Green project “Prakruthi – Care for Our Common Home” culminated with a vibrant celebration at St Aloysius Gonzaga School, Mangaluru on 16 July 2025. The event, held in the school auditorium, marked the successful completion of a series of activities aimed at fostering environmental awareness and sustainable living among students.

The culmination programme for Classes VI to XII featured Mr Dinesh Nayak, Advisor (Green Belt) Mangalore Economic Zone, recipient of various awards for creating awareness towards environment and conservation of medicinal plants, as the Chief Guest. In his address, he explained through a presentation, rare and endangered plant species of the Western Ghats and inspired students to plant at least one sapling at home. For Classes I to V, the Chief Guest was Ms Ashwini Bhat, Treasurer of Aranya Parisara Mattu Havamaana Badalavane Sangha, who emphasised the need to protect nature as a gift to future generations. The school Principal, Fr Rohan D Almeida SJ, lauded the efforts of the students and staff, and urged everyone to continue making eco-conscious choices in daily life.

Students captivated the audience with a special song, dance, and a thought-provoking street play, highlighting the message of environmental responsibility. Winners of various Science Week competitions received eco-friendly jute bags, generously sponsored by School Book Company, Mangaluru. The project also included impactful initiatives such as street plays performed on campus and at the KSRTC bus stand, Bejai, a plantation drive, a workshop on converting recycled materials into useful products, and the creation of rough books from old notebooks, all of which deepened students' understanding of sustainability and the need to care for Prakruthi. The culmination event was smoothly coordinated by Ms. Deepa Karkada and Ms. Shilpa Ballal, with strong support from the Science faculty and school staff. Their dedicated efforts brought the project to a meaningful close, leaving a lasting impression on the young minds of Gonzaga.
