EXPLORING CHILD-CENTERED PEDAGOGY IN PRE-PRIMARY CLASSROOMS

October 08, 2025

In keeping with the school’s commitment to holistic and transformative education rooted in the Ignatian value of Cura Personalis; Care for the whole person, St Aloysius Gonzaga School organized an engaging professional development session titled “Exploring Child-Centered Pedagogy” on 8th October 2025. The session, held in the school’s Board Room, was specially designed for the Pre-Primary faculty.

The resource person, Ms. Poornima Krupa, an experienced educational consultant, conducted the session with great passion and insight. The event was graced by the presence of the Principal, Fr  Rohan D Almeida SJ, and Vice-principal, Ms Aparna Suresh. The programme began with a prayer, after which Fr Rohan highlighted the relevance of the training and introduced Ms Poornima as a dedicated mentor who has guided many educators in transforming their classrooms into joyful learning spaces.

Ms Poornima’s presentation was based on the core principles of NEP 2020, focusing on the foundational stage of education. She emphasized holistic growth, the development of independent thinking, the importance of Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN), and the teacher’s role in creating meaningful, play-based learning experiences such as Bagless Day. She also stressed the significance of structured lesson planning and activity-based learning (ABL) to nurture curiosity and engagement among young learners. The session was interactive, inspiring, and deeply enriching. It was compered by Ms Averyl Rebello, while Ms. Mishal Crasta proposed the vote of thanks.
