Mangaluru, September 5, 2026: Zee Kannada’s Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li’l Champs 2026 winner Ashmith A. J., a Class VIII student of St Aloysius Gonzaga School, was felicitated during the school’s Teachers’ Day celebration on Saturday.

Principal Rev. Fr Rohan D’Almeida SJ, Vice Principals and Academic Coordinators felicitated Ashmith, who received a traditional welcome in a palki procession accompanied by chende. A video documenting his musical journey from childhood was also screened on the occasion.

Speaking at the programme, Ashmith thanked the school for its continued support and encouragement. He particularly acknowledged the support of the Principal with regard to attendance and examinations, which enabled him to participate in the reality show while continuing his studies. Ashmith said the school had recognised his singing ability as early as Class I and provided him with opportunities to perform at various school programmes and participate in competitions. These opportunities helped him develop his musical abilities.

Renowned singer and his mentor during the competition, Indu Nagaraj, described Ashmith as a talented, humble and disciplined student. She said he was receptive to corrections, diligently practised according to instructions and was obedient in his approach. She also credited the support extended by the Principal, particularly the flexibility provided for attendance and examinations, as an important factor in enabling Ashmith to participate in and win the reality show.

Ashmith’s father, Mr. Jayaram A., expressed gratitude to the Principal and teachers for identifying and nurturing his son’s talent. He said Ashmith was fortunate to be part of an institution that provided him with opportunities to develop his abilities.

Ashmith later performed a song for the gathering, receiving applause from parents, teachers and students.

Congratulating him, Rev. Fr Rohan D’Almeida SJ wished Ashmith success in his future endeavours and encouraged him to pursue his musical interests while maintaining a balance between academics and music.

Ashmith’s achievement marks another milestone in a musical journey that began at Gonzaga in Class I and highlights the role of timely encouragement and opportunities in nurturing student talent.
