St Aloysius Gonzaga School organised an online professional development session for its English teachers on 28 September 2026, titled “From Grammar to Meaning: Teaching Grammar in Context for Effective Communication.” The session was conducted by Prof. Sara Blandini from Istituto Leone XIII, Milan, Italy.
The session commenced with Ms Teena welcoming the participants and introducing the theme. Rev. Fr. Rohan D’Almeida SJ, Principal, highlighted the importance of grammar in effective communication and appreciated the sharing of teaching practices between the two institutions.
Prof. Blandini introduced the language teaching practices followed at Istituto Leone XIII, emphasising the importance of teaching grammar through meaningful contexts rather than relying solely on memorisation of rules. She explained how authentic, everyday situations help students understand grammatical structures and apply them effectively in communication. She also presented teaching resources to support contextualised learning and encouraged teachers to explore practical approaches to grammar instruction.
The session provided valuable insights into making grammar lessons more engaging, relevant and communication-oriented. It encouraged teachers to reflect on their classroom practices and consider strategies that enable students to use language confidently and meaningfully. The interaction also strengthened the academic collaboration between St Aloysius Gonzaga School and Istituto Leone XIII, Milan, opening avenues for further exchange of educational practices and enriching future student exchange experiences.
Ms Vidya Esther proposed the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to Prof. Blandini, the Principal and the participating teachers. The session was coordinated by Ms Deepa Karkada, Academic Coordinator for Classes XI and XII and Training Coordinator.
