A training session on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act was conducted for the newly recruited staff on 25 June 2026. The session was facilitated by Fr. Prashanth Sequeira SJ and was organised as part of the school management’s initiative to sensitise staff members towards child protection and safety.

The session focused on creating awareness about the key provisions of the POCSO Act, the importance of safeguarding children, and the responsibility of every adult to respond appropriately to suspected cases of child sexual abuse. The resource person addressed common myths and misconceptions surrounding child abuse and highlighted that POCSO is gender-neutral and aims to provide a safe and supportive environment for children.

The participants were introduced to the different categories of offences covered under the Act, including sexual assault, penetrative sexual assault, aggravated sexual assault, sexual harassment, and the use of children for pornography. The session also emphasised the mandatory duty to report offences, the importance of the child’s age in determining an offence, and the legal safeguards provided for children.

The session was compered by Ms. Raksha, with the welcome address delivered by Ms. Deepa Karkada. Ms. Sushmita M.S. proposed the vote of thanks. The informative and interactive session strengthened the staff’s awareness and commitment towards ensuring a safe and protective environment for every child.
