Prevention of Dog-Bite Incidents

February 24, 2026

An awareness programme on “Prevention of Dog-Bite Incidents and Management of Stray Dogs on School Premises” was conducted for the students of Classes V and VI of St. Aloysius Gonzaga School on 24th February 2026. The session was facilitated by Dr. Allison Lobo, Senior Resident, Department of Pediatrics, KMC Hospital, Attavar.

The programme aimed to educate students on safe behaviour around dogs and preventive measures to reduce dog-bite incidents. Dr. Lobo explained how to interpret a dog’s body language, identify warning signs, and follow the W.A.I.T. rule (Wait, Ask, Invite, Touch) to ensure safe interaction. Students were also sensitised to what should be avoided around dogs, the safety measures to follow if knocked down, immediate first-aid responses, and awareness regarding rabies.

The session was effectively compered by Ms. Teena Elizabeth. The welcome address was delivered by Mr. Dheeraj, and the vote of thanks was proposed by Ms. Rachel Mendonca.

The students actively participated in the interactive session by asking thoughtful questions and confidently responding to those posed by the resource person. The programme proved to be informative, engaging, and highly beneficial for creating awareness about safety and responsible behaviour around stray dogs.
